艾萨是新疆沙雅一个农村家庭的孩子，朴实善良，他的妈妈身子带病，不能言语，有时还会从家中走失。艾萨深爱着自己的妈妈，一边上学一边帮父亲照看她。凯丽比努尔是艾萨的好朋友，两人共同抚养着一只小羊，从葡萄架下到美丽的胡杨林和沙漠，到处是他们自由自在、天真烂漫的身影。在四季的流转和不期而至的离别中，孩子们会经历怎样的成长，又会从中收获什么？

《第一次的离别》是青年导演王丽娜献给故乡的一首抒情诗。童年的天真美好和成长的痛苦通过明亮柔美的画面和小演员真诚的表演，流露在荧幕前，直击人心。动人的叙事与影像让人联想起伊朗导演阿巴斯·基亚罗斯塔米的电影。
